UBON RATCHATHANI – A teacher who ordered one of her students to sit on the floor and place his shoes on the head has been temporarily relieved of teaching duties.

The 29th Educational District Office on Monday transferred the teacher from Thung Thueng Ying Pattana School in Det Udom district to work at the office with immediate effect to pave the way for investigations into her act.

The teacher, whose name is withheld, was seen in a video clip on Friday ordering a student at the school to place his shoes on his head. She also ordered him to wai the shoes and put them on his back again. The incident took place in full view of other students in the building.

The student told Thairath Online on Friday that he was punished for not taking off his shoes when he walked into the building.

The name of the student has not been disclosed.

Educational district office director Adul Kongthong said the teacher admitted to the school that the incident was real.

The school and the educational district office have set up two separate panels to probe her.

Mr Adul said the investigation would centre on whether the punishment was too harsh or if it was aimed to promote better discipline.

The teacher did not teach on Monday as she took a business leave.
