Test Yourself: Foxy lady

Test Yourself is where you can improve your reading skills. Whether it’s for tests like University Entrance Exams or IELTS and TOEFL, or even just for fun, these pages help you to read, understand and improve your English.

Read the following story by Parisa Pichitmarn from the Bangkok Post. Then, answer the questions that follow.

With her huge, glittery earrings and shiny silver boots, Sitamon Pholdee (Peach) lives up to her reputation for always being fabulously dressed. You might think that her fashion choices are a result of constantly being in the public eye — an inevitable consequence of her marriage to the nation’s heartthrob Jesdaporn Pholdee (Tik). But Peach insists that this has got nothing to do with it.

BE TRUE TO YOURSELF

“I’ve always been conscious of my appearance. I’ve dressed excessively ever since I was a child. [Laughs.] Tik didn’t make me change anything. I’ve always been true to myself. When you know yourself well enough, nobody can change you,” she said.

Before marrying Tik eight years ago, Peach was a fashion columnist and stylist for Sudsapda magazine while earning her master’s degree in business management at Mahidol University. Fashion is something that has long been part of her life. She launched the furniture shop Q Concept Store with her younger sister when Siam Paragon first opened.

“Fashion just blends into my life because I appreciate beautiful things. I feel that it’s in all the elements of daily life. I like to decorate my house too. If you dress like this, how is it that you live? I have fun choosing products that have interesting designs. The things you use in your daily life don’t have to be plain. They can be beautiful too,” she said.

TREND SETTER

Her taste for ornate styles extends to her office. The wall is covered in gold-framed pop-art pictures, the sofa in blue unicorns and the showroom in prints of foxes and flowers. Everywhere you look, you can see foxes and fluffy fur. These images represent Peach’s children’s clothing line, Little Fox.

Peach began the line two years ago. She claims that she started it just for fun, but Little Fox is clearly a very professional operation. Despite selling online only, the brand has attracted buyers from all over the world, including America, Japan and China. The clothing line features pieces covered in attractive embroidery and cheeky details, with prices ranging from 800 to 10,000 baht.

QUALITY CHECK

Peach is the managing director as well as the designer for the brand. Little Fox is the result of her dissatisfaction in shopping for her three-year-old son, Tent, who also serves as the brand’s prototype tester.

“I felt that what was in the market for boys was all the same. I wanted something more exciting. Tent tests everything. We check whether the lengths are right and if he can run around and play in them. He has a big head too, so if he can fit his head through the holes, then all the other kids should be able to too,” she said with a laugh.
